Frequently Asked Questions

How is this Refresh different from other cleanses and detoxes?

Many cleanses are cookie cutter (one size fits all) or filled with deprivation (a focus on what you can’t eat, with very little guidance on what you ‘can’ eat). I’ve carefully designed my Refresh from scratch in order to ensure that you understand the healthy substitutions that are available to you and that you have an abundance of meals that you can make with ingredients from your local supermarket. I won’t ask you to locate weird foods that you’ve never heard of or foods that taste like cardboard. This Refresh is about incorporating real foods that you’re familiar with and about creating a pattern of health habits that will serve you long term. I’ve also incorporated a private Facebook group that is typically very active so that you can ask me questions and also get support from other participants. Additionally, I provide daily emails to support you, not only with eating, but also to support you with stress management and other healthy lifestyle changes. More importantly, I pay close attention to the needs of all participants and continue to incorporate changes to each Refresh based on participant feedback.

How often should I do a Refresh?

My recommendation is to do the Refresh at least twice a year – once in the spring and once in the fall. This gives your body a time to rest and recuperate from day to day stressors from your diet and/or environment and gets you back on track with healthy habits.

Will I be hungry?

No. The Refresh is not about deprivation. This not a juice-only cleanse or a vegetarian-only cleanse. You’ll receive lots of delicious recipes (even desserts!) that will keep you satisfied.

What types of food can I eat during the Refresh?

While you will not be consuming dairy, gluten, sugar, red meat, caffeine or alcohol, the cleanse has been very carefully designed to provide you with healthy alternatives. The goal here is to provide you with an abundance of healthy foods that will crowd out any potential food that you might miss. The suggested recipes contain protein sources (such as eggs, fish, chicken and beans), grains (such as amaranth, rice and more) and lots of fresh fruits and veggies. If you have sensitivities to any particular foods, I’m sure you’ll find plenty of recipes to keep you satisfied. If you have any concerns at all, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Do I have to use Shaklee products?

To get the most out of the Refresh, I highly recommend the use of the recommended Shaklee protein powder and supplements. While your body will benefit from eliminating certain foods and by incorporating fresh, natural foods in to your diet, the protein powder contains leucine, which allows you to burn fat while retaining lean muscle mass and the supplements will help your body to function to its optimum capacity.

How do I access the program materials?

Shaklee product ordering instructions will be sent to you upon registration so that you can order these before the Refresh starts. If you already have a copy of my book Eat Real, Live Mindfully, Laugh Often – Attain True Health Body and Mind Refresh,  you can refer to your book for instructions. If you don’t have the book, program materials, including instructions and recipes will be sent to you several days prior to the beginning of the program.

Can I do the Refresh if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

Although the Refresh is gentle and designed to incorporate fresh, healthy, delicious foods into your diet that will contribute to the health of you and your baby, it’s important that you consult your healthcare provider, particularly since supplementation is recommended during the program. If you need information prior to consulting your doctor, please contact me.

I’m traveling during the Refresh. Can I still participate while I travel?

Yes. Guidance is provided so that you can stay on the Refresh during travel. In our everyday lives, there will always be something that prevents us from eating well – whether it be travel, a wedding or another life circumstance to derail us. In fact, it’s recommend that you do the program when you have events coming up as these are the events that often throw us of track and put us on the path to an unhealthy lifestyle; the beautiful thing about this program is that it’s a gentle cleanse with guidance from a certified integrative nutrition coach – it’s structured so that you can adapt it to real life in order to create lasting healthy habits while being fully supported at the time you need it most.
